IT'S A LIBRARY.... BUT NOT AS YOU KNOW IT
Here's the experiment
Many people living in Poole and Bournemouth would love to get out on the water but can't. It might be lack of money, lack of gear or lack of confidence. Meanwhile there are lots of people who have a spare wetsuit, surfboard, kayak, paddleboard or even a boat sitting around at home.
Imagine if there was a library filled with a load of watersports gear that anyone could use all year round? If you had a mate that wanted to learn to surf but doesn't have the equipment, or you wanted to try kayaking but didn't want to splash out for the gear then we would be there to help. We want to begin connecting people with anything they might need to get out in the water.
HOW IT WORKS.
1. BECOME A MEMBER
2. SHARE AND BORROW
This whole experiment is about sharing. Share your gear. Share the word about the library. And if you have any water based skills then we would love to find a way of sharing knowledge too. Let us know if you have an idea you want to try out!
This experiment is rooted in the Christian faith. We weren't made to own everything, we were made to be dependant on other people around us. One of the effects of consumer culture is individualism and loneliness. We believe that relationships belong at the heart of helping fix social issues. But that isn't the only reason
- Sharing gets the best out of the products we buy. Some other libraries like this are seeing a products life span increase from anywhere between 10-1000 per cent. This, in turn, should reduce our effect on the climate as fewer resources need to be used.
- Sharing is a brilliant equaliser. It brings together both rich and poor, old and young.
- Getting people to enjoy the outdoors has got to have a huge impact on our health
